Teens Speak Out

Teen Integrity is excited to announce their Teens Speak Out essay contest!  We are calling for entries from California teens starting now through October 1st, 2007.  The winner will be chosen and given a scholarship to go towards college tuition and their essay will be used in Teen Integrity documents and newsletters.

California teens, ages 13-18, are requested to compose an essay on the following topic:  “How would you spread the abstinence message among your peers?”  Essays should be focused on the physical, emotional, and social benefits of abstinence.

How far is too far and how do I say no?

Line: You're still a virgin? You don't know what you're missing!
Response: I do know what I'm missing – STDs, pregnancy and a lot of emotional baggage.

·  Line: I promise nothing will happen - I'll use protection.
Response: The only protection for me is abstinence. My future isn't worth risking.  With your “protection” I can still get pregnant and/or contract sexual transmitted diseases.

·  Line: Are you repressed or something?
Response: No, I'm comfortable with my sexuality – I know it's a gift worth saving for my future spouse.

·  Line: Just have a few drinks, that'll get us in the mood!
Response: No, thanks. Actually I'm just on my way home.

It is important to figure out where you are going to draw the line physically in a relationship.   Remember, oral sex is sex as you can get STD’s from it.  The most important stage of a relationship is being together, if you do not get to know the person on all levels, social, spiritual, emotional, intellectual the relationship will not fill the deepest desire you have for the relationship in the first place.
